The draws for the second edition of the MOB UNITY CUP among the football teams in Ekiti Central Senatorial District of Ekiti State have been held with a charge to all participating teams to keep to the rules of the game.
The draws which were held at the Constituency office of Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele in Ado Ekiti had in attendance the representatives of the 55 teams taking part in the championship.
According to the fixtures produced at the end of the draws, the opening match of the competition will be held on November 2 between 11Lions and Harmony football clubs.
In a press statement by the chairman of the media committee of the championship Toyin Ayoola indicates that the opening ceremony will begin at 2 pm while the official kick off will follow immediately.
The chairman of the organizing committee Honourable Sola Fakanle, commended the sponsor of the championship for his gesture and noted that the name of Senator Opeyemi Bamidele will go down in history as one of the major pillars of sports development in Ekiti State and Nigeria at large, and urge Bamidele not to relent in his efforts at bringing meaningful development to Ekiti State.
According to Fakanle, the major aim of the championship is to discover hidden talents in Ekiti State.
Also speaking at the occasion is chairman of the Ekiti State Football Association, Mr Olu Oloworemo who promised the support of the Football Association to the successful completion of the competition, and urged the officiating officials and the organisers to be fair to all the teams taking part in the championship.
Other matches coming up on the second day of the championship at the Ado Ekiti center will see De-Light Fc lock horns with Christ Followers at Christ School playing ground at 1pm while Zion FC will battle White Horse FC at the same venue at 3pm.
Group B matches taking place at Ado Grammar School include New Ball Warriors versus Arewa FC and DFK versus Golden FC.
Meanwhile, prior to the draws, head of the Technical committee, Coach Kehinde Anjorin took coaches and captains of all participating teams through a seminar on the need to avoid Hooliganism in Football and the global rules of the game urging participants to adhere strictly with the rules in order to avoid sanctions.
The chairman of the Ekiti State Football Referees Council, Kayode Onilearo also sensitized coaches and captains on the global rules guiding match officiating.
However, members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, Ekiti State led by the chairman, Qozeem Oladapo also attended the draws and seminar.
The 2024 MOB Ekiti Central Unity Cup will run for almost a month as prizes and gifts await not just the outstanding teams and individual players but other youths in the Senatorial District are also expected to benefit from different initiatives from the Leader of the Senate, Senator Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele who was a one time Commissioner For Youth and Sports Development in Lagos State and former Member of the House of Representatives.
