Ademola Lookman Shines as Atalanta Defeats VfB Stuttgart 2-0 in Champions League Clash

Nigeria international Ademola Lookman was instrumental in Atalanta’s 2-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart on Wednesday night, netting the opening goal and helping his team secure a valuable three points in a UEFA Champions League match at the MHPArena.

The Nerazzurri faced an intense atmosphere as they entered the second half scoreless. Lookman, however, broke the deadlock in the 51st minute with a clinical tap-in from Charles De Ketelaere’s precise pass. Nicolò Zaniolo later sealed the win in the 88th minute, firing a low shot from the edge of the penalty area into the far corner.

Lookman, who previously played at the MHPArena with RB Leipzig, reflected on the intense environment in Stuttgart. “Coming here is never easy – I think we all saw the atmosphere and how loud it was,” he told UEFA’s official website. “It was great for us to experience it and play here, and wonderful for us to put on the performance that we did in this stadium."

The forward’s latest goal takes his tally to 13 goal involvements this season, with eight goals and five assists in 13 appearances across all competitions. Lookman’s form has helped Atalanta remain one of the six undefeated teams in the Champions League, with the Italian club accumulating eight points from four games.

Atalanta’s number 11 expressed satisfaction with the team’s approach and patience: “We had a positive first half. We created dangerous moments, so the aim was to keep doing what we were doing. We knew the chances would come, and we took them. We’re happy with the three points and we’ll keep going.”

Lookman has been called up for Nigeria’s November internationals against Benin and Rwanda. He is set to join the Super Eagles after Atalanta’s Serie A fixture against Udinese on Sunday, November 7.
