A tragic fire incident in Ile Alaparun Isale, Alore, Ilorin, Kwara State, has claimed the life of a 41-year-old man, AbdulFatai, and engulfed 35 rooms in the early hours of Monday.
The Kwara State Fire Service, in a statement issued by Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity, confirmed that the blaze spread quickly, devastating five rooms and causing significant damage.
Firefighters arrived promptly and managed to save 30 rooms, successfully containing the fire before it could spread further.
The victim, identified as AbdulFatai from Ile Alate, Abayawo, was visiting a friend when the fire broke out. Unfortunately, he was unable to escape due to thick smoke that rendered him unconscious. His body was recovered and later handed over to his family after the firefighting efforts.
The statement disclosed that preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was triggered by spontaneous ignition in a room containing highly combustible materials, including petrol, batteries, and a tire inflator engine.
Prince Falade John, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, extended his condolences to the deceased's family and the Magaji of Ile Alaparun. He also stressed the importance of strict adherence to fire safety measures to prevent such devastating incidents in the future.

On Monday, December 9, 2024, at 02:07 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service promptly responded to a distress call reporting a fire outbreak at No. 158, Ile Alaparun Isale, Alore, Ilorin, Kwara State.
A fire truck and its crew swiftly arrived at the scene to combat the blaze at a dwelling of about 35 rooms. Upon arrival, the fire had already engulfed some rooms, but the determined firefighters worked diligently to contain and extinguish the fire, preventing its spread to other areas. Ultimately, five rooms were affected, while 30 rooms were successfully saved.
Tragically, the fire claimed the life of a 41-year-old man, identified as AbdulFatai from Ile Alate, Abayawo. He had come to spend the night at a friend’s residence but was unable to escape due to intense smoke, which rendered him unconscious. His body was handed over to his family after the firefighting operation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by spontaneous ignition in a room storing combustible materials, including petrol, batteries, and a tire inflator engine.
