Bologna defender Sam Beukema has reflected on his intense
encounter with Napoli's star striker Victor Osimhen as his team prepares to
face Napoli on Sunday.
In the 2023/2024 season, Bologna
played out a goalless draw against Napoli in their first encounter, while the
Red and Blues secured a 2-0 victory at the Maradona Stadium in May 2024.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Beukema reflected on last season's encounters with the Nigerian forward, describing Osimhen as a particularly challenging opponent among Napoli’s attackers.
While acknowledging the skills of other strikers like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Giacomo Raspadori, and Giovanni Simeone, Beukema emphasized that facing Osimhen was on another level.
"There are Kvaratskhelia, Raspadori, Simeone — sorry if that's not enough," Beukema joked in an interview ahead of the match. "But Osimhen is another story. I still bear the scars of last season's duels."
Despite the tough memories, Beukema expressed confidence heading into the game. "But I don’t worry," he said. "Whoever plays, I’ll be ready."
Osimhen has been at the center of transfer speculation throughout the summer, with top European clubs like PSG and Chelsea showing interest in signing the prolific striker.
However, with the transfer window closing soon, his future at
Napoli remains uncertain as no deal has been finalized.
