Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has rated Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman as a more technically skilled player compared to Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Peseiro, who led Nigeria to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, has shared his insights on the ongoing transfer speculations involving both players.
Both Lookman and Osimhen have attracted interest from top European clubs, including Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, during the summer transfer window.
“Ademola is more technical than Osimhen, more inclined to create the game, and he is now also scoring,” Peseiro told SportItalia via Football London. “He is performing very well this year.”
Peseiro noted Lookman’s development under Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini, highlighting his consistent performance. “He grew up with Gasperini; now he is always playing, and we are happy with him. He’s at a high level and can aspire to do great things.”
Peseiro also pointed out that both players have shown significant growth this year due to their involvement in dynamic playing systems. “It’s no coincidence that they’ve both grown this year. This is because they’re both within a good system of play,” he said.
He emphasized that Atalanta and Napoli both favor an attacking style of play, which has benefited their players. “Atalanta and Napoli want the ball; they want to play and attack. In these conditions, players get excited. Italian football has changed a lot in the last few years,” Peseiro added.
