The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has extended scholarships to minors who were detained last August for their participation in the #EndBadGovernance protest.
The minors, recently released with charges withdrawn by the Federal Government, will now receive full scholarships for their primary and secondary education.
During a press briefing held in Lagos yesterday, Abdulmumuni Kundak, Chairman of the NAPPS Nigeria New Board of Trustees, announced the initiative, stressing the importance of giving the children a positive path forward.
"We are going to liaise with the authorities and get the records of the persons. Those who are within the ages of primary and secondary education will be given the scholarships, wherever they are,” he said. “Our members are ready to absorb them in schools across the country.”
Kundak highlighted that the association’s focus is on equipping young people with the skills and education needed to make positive impacts in society.
"It is better we train these youngsters to become better and enlightened citizens of the country,” he noted, adding that humanitarian work is core to NAPPS’s values. He pointed out recent association efforts, including aid provided to flood victims in Maiduguri, Borno State.
According to Kundak, each NAPPS member already provides at least four scholarships yearly to their students, underscoring their commitment to fostering educational opportunities for all Nigerian children.
