The Nigerian government has disbursed funds to settle outstanding salaries for members of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of Federal Universities, along with benefits owed to retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme.
This development was confirmed on Saturday in a statement by Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF).
According to Mokwa, the government has begun processing payments, with many NASU members already confirming receipt of their withheld salaries.
“The Federal Government has released funds for payment of withheld salary of Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities,” the statement read.
“Additionally, funds have been released to cover benefits for retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector.”
The move is expected to provide significant relief to NASU members and retired federal employees, many of whom have faced financial challenges due to delays in payments.
The OAGF assured that the process of disbursing these funds is ongoing to ensure that all entitled beneficiaries receive their payments promptly.
The release of these funds marks a step toward fulfilling the government's obligations to federal university staff and retirees, easing financial strain and strengthening commitments to both current and former public sector employees.
