Kwara: Ifelodun Local Government Reveals Plans To Increase Internal Revenue


The Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State has unveiled strategic plans to boost its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) following the submission of a comprehensive report by its Revenue Generation Committee on Monday.


The report, received by the Executive Chairman, Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, highlights key areas for intervention to enhance revenue collection and optimize the management of the local government’s resources.


Presenting the report, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Are Olawale, outlined critical recommendations, including streamlining market revenue collection processes and re-evaluating the management of facilities to ensure they are fully utilized by traders while generating adequate maintenance fees.


“We conducted on-the-spot assessments to provide detailed insights for improving our IGR. We have offered all necessary recommendations to the council, leveraging our expertise to promote revenue growth to the desired level,” Hon. Olawale stated.


In a statement by Abdulquadri Jimba, the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, the committee proposed stricter monitoring measures, particularly in setting targets for the 2025 permit collection, alongside the full rehabilitation of specific facilities to unlock their revenue potential.


Additionally, the committee suggested revitalizing the local government’s mass transit system to ensure its sustainability while serving as an additional revenue stream.


The sale of outdated equipment through official channels was also recommended, with proceeds to be reinvested in acquiring new and functional assets.


In his remarks, Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf expressed appreciation for the committee’s diligence and pledged the council’s commitment to swiftly implementing the recommendations.


He emphasized the importance of strengthening the financial foundation of the local government to enhance service delivery for the residents of Ifelodun.


Stakeholders present at the meeting included the Vice Chairman, Hon. Nike Ajibola; Speaker of the Ifelodun Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Jimoh Garba; Development Officer, Hon. Ayanshola Benjamin; Chief of Staff, Dr. Ademola Zubair; departmental heads, party stalwarts, and other dignitaries.
