NFF to Inaugurate Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee on Thursday

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to inaugurate its Futsal and Beach Soccer Sub-Committee, a move aimed at bolstering the organization and development of these specialized football formats in the country.

 

Scheduled for Thursday at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja, the inauguration will be presided over by the President of the NFF, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau.

 

The committee will be chaired by Otuekong Nse Essien, with Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf (Fresh), the Chairman of Chairmen of Nigeria Football, serving as vice chairman.

 

Other members include Aminu Mohammed Inuwa, Hon. Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, Hajji Liameed Gafaar, Mr. Richard Jideaka, and Yabagi Alhaji Baba. Abubakar D. Umar (Barde) will act as the secretary.

 

The primary mandate of the Futsal and Beach Soccer Sub-Committee is to oversee the organization of all futsal and beach soccer competitions within Nigeria.

 

This includes handling all matters related to the administration, development, and promotion of these fast-paced and dynamic football variants.

 

Nigeria has a storied history in beach soccer, having achieved considerable success both continentally and on the global stage.

 

The Supersand Eagles notably clinched the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2007 and 2009 and made a mark by reaching the quarter-finals of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Italy in 2008.

 

Recently, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducted the draw for the qualifying series of the upcoming Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations.

 

Nigeria's Supersand Eagles were drawn against Mauritania and are scheduled to play home and away matches next month. The qualifiers feature a total of 14 countries vying for seven spots alongside hosts Egypt at the finals.

 

The initial leg of the Nigeria versus Mauritania clash will take place in Mauritania between 19th and 21st July, with the return leg hosted by Nigeria a week later.

 

In a historic development, Seychelles will host the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup next year, marking the first time the tournament will be held on African soil.
