The Kwara State Fire Service has reiterated the importance of electrical safety following a fire outbreak caused by a power surge in Ilorin on Sunday.
According to a statement released by the Head of Media and Publicity of the agency, Hassan Adekunle, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on July 20, 2025, at Muritala Muhammed Way, directly opposite the C & S Church in Ilorin.
Firefighters from the state service responded swiftly to the emergency, successfully containing the blaze before it could cause further damage or spread to adjoining properties.
Commenting on the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, emphasized the need for residents to be more cautious in their use of electrical appliances and wiring systems.
He warned that negligence, particularly in high-risk areas such as homes and business premises, could lead to tragic consequences.
He urged residents to report any fire-related emergencies promptly and encouraged them to install surge protectors and engage licensed professionals for electrical installations.
The fire service, through its media office, assured the public of its continued readiness to respond to emergencies, while also calling on the populace to adopt preventive measures to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks.
