The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced serious concerns regarding the preparedness of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for September 21, 2024.
At a press conference held recently, PDP Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Muhammed, expressed the party’s dissatisfaction with KWSIEC’s handling of the electoral preparations. Despite the commission having released election timetables, there has been no issuance of essential guidelines for the polls, which are just a month away.
Muhammed criticized KWSIEC for its lack of transparency and preparedness, stressing that the absence of clear guidelines has created significant uncertainty. This situation has led the PDP to question the commission’s ability to ensure a free and fair electoral process.
“The PDP has lost confidence in KWSIEC due to its apparent unpreparedness,” Muhammed declared. “The delay in providing crucial guidelines for the elections raises serious concerns about the commission’s readiness and commitment to conducting a credible election.”
The PDP’s concerns have sparked anxiety among political stakeholders and residents who are keen to participate in the local government elections.
