The Kwara State Government has taken disciplinary action against a secondary school teacher accused of mistreating a youth corps member at Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin.
In a joint statement by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, the government disclosed that an investigative panel found Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike guilty of misconduct.
The offenses included fighting on duty, use of foul language, insubordination, and disrespect for the national identity represented by the corps member’s uniform.
As a result, the teacher has been demoted by two grade levels, transferred out of her current school, and directed to attend counseling sessions.
“The State Government will not tolerate such abuse under any guise. The government deeply regrets the action of the teacher and reassures the management of the National Youth Service Corps that the development did not represent the people of the state, and it will not happen again,” the statement said.
The government also called on teachers across the state to uphold professional standards and perform their duties within the boundaries of public service rules. It reiterated its commitment to training educators on teaching ethics and service procedures.
The statement further emphasized that the disciplinary action was a reflection of the government’s zero tolerance for misconduct in its educational institutions.
The Kwara Teaching Service Commission expressed hope that the measures taken would serve as a deterrent to others and uphold the integrity of the state’s education system.
