The lifeless body of a male adult was discovered on Friday under the Okefia bridge in Osogbo, Osun State.
The circumstances surrounding the discovery remain unclear, but the body was found partially unclad, raising questions about how it came to rest at the location.
A local trader, who identified himself only as Timothy, revealed that the corpse was first noticed around midday, prompting a swift response from the public.
Concerned residents immediately alerted security personnel, leading to the arrival of officers from the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Local government officials also joined the scene shortly thereafter.
A bag containing clothes was found beside the body, though it remains unclear if the items were connected to the deceased in any way.
NSCDC spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the discovery in a statement, adding that local government authorities were notified and efforts were swiftly made to manage the situation.
“The incident was promptly reported to the Water and Environmental Sanitation Department of Osogbo West LCDA and the Head of Local Government of Osogbo West,” Adeleke stated. "Immediate arrangements were made to evacuate the body to prevent further decomposition."
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man's death is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the cause of death and identify the individual.
