Kwara state government has shared insight behind the vaccination of over two thousand 2025 Hajj pilgrims in preparation for the event in Saudi Arabia.
The State Government has commenced the vaccination of 2,174 intending pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj, citing mandatory health protocols and the need to protect pilgrims from preventable diseases as the primary reasons for the exercise.
The vaccination campaign began on Monday, April 28, at the premises of the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, with pilgrims drawn from all sixteen local government areas of the state.
In a statement issued by the Assistant Press Secretary of the Board, Sanni Muhammed, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdulkadir, explained that the vaccination is in compliance with directives from Saudi authorities, which require all pilgrims to be vaccinated at least ten days before departing Nigeria.
He noted that the vaccines are intended to strengthen the immune systems of the pilgrims, adding that the exercise is a critical step in safeguarding the health of pilgrims during the holy journey. He urged all participants to keep their yellow cards safe, as they serve as proof of immunization.
The vaccines administered protect against oral polio, yellow fever, influenza, and meningitis. Pilgrims were advised to report any side effects promptly to health officials.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Board, Professor Jimba Moshood, called for full cooperation from all intending pilgrims. He emphasized that participation in the vaccination exercise is not only mandatory but essential to ensure a smooth and safe Hajj experience.
Director of Port Health Services at the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Mr. Taiwo Afolabi, who administered the first dose of the vaccine, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to a successful and medically compliant Hajj operation.
The state government reiterated its dedication to the welfare of pilgrims, urging them to adhere to all health guidelines as preparations for Hajj 2025 continue.
