Osun Police Arrest Two Suspects for Armed Robbery and Cultism

The Osun State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Olugbode Joshua and Akinleye Ayodeji, for their alleged involvement in armed robbery and cultism.

The arrests were announced on Wednesday during a parade of suspects at the police headquarters in Osogbo. According to the command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, the suspects were apprehended in different areas of Osogbo after a series of criminal activities.

Joshua, a 22-year-old member of the notorious Black Axe confraternity, was reportedly involved in an armed robbery at a store in the Ita-Olokan area of Osogbo. Opalola explained that on July 29, 2024, Joshua and his gang, armed with guns and dangerous weapons, stormed a store, injuring the store owner and several customers before stealing two iPhones.

"Joshua, popularly known as 'Oole,' has been terrorizing Osogbo and its environs along with his deadly gang. After the robbery incident was reported, the Anti-cultism unit swung into action and arrested him on August 8, 2024," Opalola stated.

Joshua is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

In a related case, 25-year-old Akinleye Ayodeji, also known as "Devil," was arrested on the same day, August 8, 2024. Ayodeji, another member of the Black Axe confraternity, had been involved in a series of cult clashes and violent activities in the Egbatedo area of Osogbo. The police responded swiftly to a tip-off about a cult clash at Gbemu Area, leading to Ayodeji's arrest, while his accomplices escaped upon sighting the police.

"The suspect is known for terrorizing the Egbatedo area and other parts of Osogbo," Opalola said. "Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other gang members."

Both suspects will face charges in court after the conclusion of investigations.

The Osun State Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their communities to law enforcement agencies to help maintain peace and security.
