Kwara Government Dismisses Kwara Redemption Movement as Frustrated Politicians

The Special Adviser on Media to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Alhaji Basiru Adigun, has condemned the recently launched Kwara Redemption Movement (KRM), describing its architects as "failed politicians" motivated by a "pull him down syndrome" (PDS) due to their frustration.

The KRM, spearheaded by APC chieftain Hon. Iyiola Oyedepo, was established in Ilorin with ambitions to reshape the political landscape in Kwara and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The movement's leaders assert that their primary goal is to advocate for the development and progress of the state.

In a statement issued in Ilorin on Monday, Alhaji Adigun highlighted contradictions within the group, noting its claims of being non-partisan while simultaneously asserting that its members are drawn from various political parties.

He pointed out that the movement attempts to take sole credit for the 2019 "O to Ge" revolution, which dismantled the Saraki political dynasty and ushered in the current Republican Kwara political landscape under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Adigun warned that the KRM, led by Akogun Oyedepo, is revisiting a path of failed political strategies.

He also criticized the KRM for misleading its members into joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP) before the 2023 elections, leading to negative repercussions for those individuals.

Adigun asserted that KRM members are disgruntled because of the governor’s steadfast commitment to preventing the misuse of public resources for personal gain, a practice associated with the previous political dynasty.

He highlighted the successes of the Kwara Social Investment Programme in empowering the poor and vulnerable in the state. He reiterated that the governor continues to enjoy overwhelming support from the electorate, countering the efforts of the KRM and its affiliates.

The statement said: “O to Ge is a revolution by the people of Kwara and not by any individual or group of people.

“The people showed their love, support and endorsement for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq through the 2019, 2023 General elections and the just concluded local government elections in all of which they overwhelmingly voted for the administration in 2019, 2023 general elections and recently the 2024 local government election.

“We wish to state that Akogun Oyedepo and his ilk have traveled this path before and the outcome of this Gulliver politics is well known to the people of Kwara.

“The people of Kwara should be aware that the gang up is driven by their failure and frustration not to have pocketed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and prevent him from focusing on providing dividends of Democracy and positive impact on the people of Kwara State”.

The statement further added: “The same group misled some of its members to join the Social Democratic Party SDP ahead of the 2023 general elections with incalculable negative consequences to those members.

“Akogun, their leader abandoned them in the SDP to reaffirm his membership of the All-Progressive Congress and pledged his loyalty to Governor AbdulRazaq”.

The statement further said: “The KRM members are certainly annoyed because of the governor’s unbending principle against using the people’s wealth for personal aggrandizement as practiced by the displaced dynasty.

“They are dissatisfied with Kwara Social Investment Programme empowering the poor and the vulnerable in the state instead of them cornering the people ‘s wealth to themselves.

“The so called movement is frustrated because Governor AbdulRazaq has excelled beyond reasonable doubt in all sectors; education, health, poverty alleviation, infrastructural renewal, security, food production, prompt payment of salaries, pension and gratuity for workers at both State and LG levels and the pensioners unlike the dehumanizing experience of the PDP era.

“The governor has continued to win landslide by the overwhelming votes of the people of the state against their own conspiracy with their disgraceful paid master”.
