The Kwara State Government has announced the temporary closure of Harmony Transport Services Ltd (HTSL), popularly known as Kwara Express, to launch a complete restructuring aimed at revitalizing the company for enhanced productivity and economic impact.
In a statement by Harmony Holdings Ltd, the state agency managing public enterprises, the government detailed plans for a sweeping reformation of the struggling transport company.
The overhaul will modernize HTSL's fleet and infrastructure, introducing advanced technology to boost operational efficiency and improve customer service.
All employees will receive full exit benefits as part of the restructuring, according to Harmony Holdings, which also acknowledged the difficulty of the decision.
The exit package and best wishes aim to support the workers as the company undergoes the necessary reforms to establish a sustainable operational model.
The closure comes amid persistent challenges at HTSL, including multiple previous closures due to operational issues.
Recent feedback from customers has pointed to a critical need for improvements, prompting the government to initiate this decisive step toward a comprehensive upgrade of the service.
Acknowledging the potential disruption to customers, Harmony Holdings assured the public that measures are in place to limit the closure period and facilitate a seamless transition during this essential phase of HTSL's development.
“The Harmony Holdings Ltd assures that all exit entitlements of the staff are currently being settled, while their contributions to the company are sincerely appreciated. Those staff members interested in rejoining the company after the overhaul will have the opportunity to reapply,” it stated.
“We acknowledge the inconvenience this temporary shutdown may cause to our valued customers and assure you that efforts are underway to minimize the duration of this service interruption.
“The general public can rest assured that all measures are being implemented to ensure a seamless transition during this crucial phase of the company’s evolution.”
