The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 2,500 personnel to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for residents during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Ayoola Michael Shola, on Thursday, Dr. Umar J.G. Muhammed, the Commandant of Kwara NSCDC, vowed the gallant officers will protect critical national assets and infrastructure across the state.
He further revealed that the personnel were drawn from various specialized units, including the Armed Squad Unit, Operation Harmony, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) Unit, and the Anti-Vandal Unit. The officers have been strategically deployed across all 16 local government areas of Kwara State.
Plainclothes operatives from the Intelligence and Investigation Department will also be conducting round-the-clock surveillance, focusing on key locations such as recreational and religious centers, marketplaces, and other sites housing critical government infrastructure. Overt and covert patrols will ensure thorough coverage of the state's security landscape during the festive period.
Commandant Umar assured that the NSCDC would coordinate with other security agencies and local vigilantes to guarantee a smooth and incident-free holiday season. He extended his Christmas and New Year greetings to the residents and urged them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately to the appropriate authorities.
Furthermore, the commandant warned against any plans to vandalize government property, stressing that such criminal behavior would not be tolerated. He reassured the public that the NSCDC and other security agencies were fully committed to maintaining law and order during the celebrations.
