Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare boosted Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification hopes with a decisive performance against Rwanda.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Premier League side this summer, came off the bench to score the only goal in the Super Eagles’ 1-0 victory at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
After a sluggish first-half display in which Nigeria failed to trouble the Rwandan defense, Arokodare was introduced at the restart.
His impact was immediate, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to fire home the breakthrough goal and ease growing tension among the home supporters.
Arokodare, who has a brilliant campaign with Genk last season, has increased his tally for Nigeria to two in five appearances.
The win lifts Nigeria to 10 points from their qualifying campaign, moving them above Rwanda into third place, though they remain six points adrift of leaders South Africa with three matches left to play.
The Super Eagles will now look to build on the momentum when they travel to face South Africa on Tuesday in a crucial fixture.
