The death of the former president was announced on Sunday afternoon in a statement by Garba Shehu, made available to Ensurednews on Sunday afternoon.
Former President Buhari, who became the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 27, 2015, has been battling with illness for years.
According to the statement, Garba Shehu revealed that Buhari passed on in a clinic in London. The announcement sparked emotional reactions from several prominent personalities in the country.
In an emotional video trending online, Zahra was seen in an emotional state on the street in London. She was seen visibly distraught, crying, and shouting on a street in London upon receiving the news of her father's passing.
Meanwhile, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has announced the burial arrangements for the late president during a press briefing on Monday.
He revealed that, following consultations with the deceased's family and close associates in London, it was agreed that the former leader's remains would arrive in Katsina by noon on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. The burial is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. the same day in Daura, the late president’s hometown.
