In a pivotal move ahead of
the upcoming local government elections in Kwara State, Comrade Habib Ajibola
Lawal, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilorin East, has tendered his resignation to the party.
Ensurednews gathered the decision
comes in compliance with directives issued by the Kwara APC, requiring
candidates interested in contesting for chairmanship or councillorship
positions to resign from their current roles by Friday, June 21, 2024.
In a formal letter addressed
to Prince Sunday Fagbemi, the State Chairman of the APC, Comrade Habib cited
his aspiration to vie for the chairmanship position in the forthcoming
elections as the motivating factor behind his resignation.
He expressed gratitude to
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, State Chairman Prince Sunday Fagbemi, and members of the party in Ilorin East for their unwavering support
throughout his tenure.
The local government
elections in Kwara State are scheduled to
take place on September 21, 2024.
According to guidelines
released by Muhammed Baba Okanla, Chairman of the Kwara State Independent
Electoral Commission (KWSIEC), successful candidates will be awarded
certificates of return on Monday, September 23, 2024.
