A former student of Kwara State University, Malete, Adebayo Habeeb, has recounted how he was forcibly initiated into the EYE fraternity while studying at the institution.
Adebayo shared his ordeal at the Kwara State Police Command headquarters, where he was presented to the media as one of several suspects arrested for cult-related activities within the Ilorin metropolis.
Speaking to reporters, Adebayo revealed that his initiation into the cult occurred when he was in his 300-level year, studying Public Administration. He emphasized that he was coerced into joining the fraternity at gunpoint.
"No, sir, I only belong to EYE. I'm not one of those people who do such things, and I have never killed in my life," Adebayo stated. "I've never gained anything from this group because I was forced. I used to run from them. Since I entered 100 level, they kept pressuring me to join, but I always resisted. They eventually came to my hostel around midnight that year and forced me with a gun."
He recounted how he was taken to a secluded bush near his school for the initiation. "They came to my hostel when I was still in school. I was in 300 level at Kwara State University when they carried me into a bush for the initiation," Adebayo added.
In response to the arrest, Kwara State Commissioner of Police,
CP Olaiya Victor Mobolaji, assured residents that the police command is
committed to eradicating cult-related activities in the state and will continue
to ensure the safety and security of citizens.
