IBEDC Denies Reports of Workers’ Strike in Osun

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has dismissed reports suggesting that its workers embarked on an industrial strike in Osun on Friday, clarifying that the incident was a picketing action by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE).  

Earlier reports had claimed that IBEDC employees went on strike on Thursday in protest against alleged unfair labor practices. 

However, in a statement issued by Angela Olanrewaju, IBEDC's Coordinating Head of Corporate Services, the company refuted the claims, explaining that the demonstration was orchestrated by NUEE over grievances related to staff exits and other labor concerns.  

"As we are aware of reports circulating that employees of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) went on strike today."

"We would like to clarify that the action in question was a picket organized by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE). One of the concerns raised was the alleged unjust exiting of certain staff members, along with other issues brought forward by the union,” the statement read.  

IBEDC assured customers and stakeholders that operations remain unaffected and reiterated its commitment to staff welfare and service excellence.  

“We urge our customers and various stakeholders across our franchise areas to disregard media reports that our workers have embarked on strike beginning today."

"We want to emphasize that the staff members in question were let go due to consistent poor performance, following the company's Conditions of Service and proper procedures were followed in these exits,” the statement added.  

Addressing broader concerns about employee welfare, IBEDC emphasized that it prioritizes the well-being of its workforce despite the economic challenges facing the country.  

“Regarding other concerns related to staff welfare, we want to affirm that the company has always prioritized the well-being of its employees. Despite the ongoing economic challenges in the country IBEDC has consistently paid the full salaries of its employees each month." 

"IBEDC remains dedicated to excellent staff welfare, maintaining a positive work environment and safeguarding the interests of both its employees and stakeholders.”  

The company reaffirmed its commitment to delivering uninterrupted electricity services across its coverage areas while continuing dialogue with relevant stakeholders to resolve any outstanding labor issues.

"The Management of IBEDC wishes to reiterate our commitment to excellence in service delivery and staff welfare at all times," it concluded.
