Insecurity: Over 20 Suspected Criminals Arrested in Ifelodun, Edu, Patigi

More than 20 suspected criminals, including alleged gun runners and their logistics operatives, have been arrested in Kwara State following a major security crackdown initiated by the state government and the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The operation, which began earlier this week, is focused on Ifelodun, Ekiti, Edu, Patigi, and surrounding border areas that have recently witnessed growing security breaches. Nearly 400 special operatives have been deployed to execute the coordinated operation.

“We are to have these local governments on a lockdown. The operation is just getting underway, and we have more than 20 arrests already. The suspects are giving useful information, and many of them were caught with ammunitions and supplies meant for the criminals around Babanla (Ifelodun),” an intelligence report disclosed on Wednesday.

According to the report, at least 10 of the suspects, found in possession of dangerous weapons and supplies, have been transferred to Abuja for further investigation.

"Out of these suspects, 10 are being moved to Abuja along with the ammunition in their possession for more grilling. The operation has also led to the unconditional release of many captives in the area following mounting pressure on the criminals."

The operation has also led to the rescue of several kidnap victims from the area, as operatives intensified pressure on the criminal networks.

A government source revealed that the effort includes strategic coordination with security agencies in neighbouring Kogi and Niger States to seal escape routes for fleeing suspects.

“The operation is only starting from Ifelodun. We are also moving to Edu and Patigi, while Eruku axis is on lockdown to ensure that these criminals do not escape to Kogi. Border communities around Niger are also being monitored,” the source added.

This large-scale intervention comes days after Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements from the state’s forests and vulnerable communities.

The government is urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or unknown persons to the nearest security post.
