An official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State, Aina Stephen Olushola, has been arraigned at the Magistrate Court in Pake, Ilorin, over his alleged involvement in a car theft incident.
According to community sources, Olushola was accused of stealing a Toyota Camry “Muscle” valued at ₦7 million on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, around 8:00 PM in the Gbagba Community, Airport Area of Ilorin.
Olopade Rasheed, the Public Relations Officer of the Gbagba Community, told EnsuredNews that Olushola carried out the crime alongside two other gang members who were armed with rifles and other dangerous weapons.
The gang allegedly impersonated operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and attacked a resident, Mrs. Akinloye Olawunmi Victoria, while she was driving into her compound with her children.
Rasheed explained that the assailants forcibly removed the children from the vehicle and falsely claimed Mrs. Olawunmi was wanted by the EFCC. She was later dropped off at Gari Alimi, where she was robbed of her tablet and phone, and the car was taken away.
The stolen vehicle was eventually recovered on Thursday, May 29, 2025, during an attempt by Olushola to sell it. He was promptly arrested by police operatives and taken to the State CID headquarters in Ilorin, where he reportedly confessed to the crime.
During interrogation, Olushola allegedly identified two of his accomplices by their nicknames — "Alaye" and "Jaguar" — without disclosing their full identities.
Meanwhile, on Friday, July 11, 2025, Olushola was formally arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Pake by the Kwara State Police Command. After the hearing, the presiding judge, Justice Mayowa, adjourned the case until August 22 for further mention.
Justice Mayowa also noted that a report from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) indicated that the suspect has a case to answer. The DPP is expected to prepare the case for trial at the High Court.
However, the spokesperson for the NSCDC Kwara Command, Ayoola Michael Samuel, denied that Olushola is an officer of the command.
Meanwhile, repeated attempts to reach the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Ejire Adetoun, for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.
